Choosing A Charity
So you’ve wanted to donate or join up with a charity for years but just didn’t know how? Stephen Dent shows you how to get started. Usually, it makes the most sense to join a charity close to you. Stephen Dent knows that there are others who may need you too – so if giving close to home is not an option, there are many things you can do to help those who live overseas or in other parts of the USA far away from you. Stephen Dent asks you to consider the millions of Americans who banded together during the Hurricane Katrina effort – many thousands of people were never at ground zero and were able to give clothes or other very helpful items to make a difference.
Stephen Dent knows that many people have a soft spot in their hearts for Africa and the many people there who struggle with AIDS, poverty, lack of potable water and many other hardships. Stephen Dent recommends that you closely monitor and get to know any international organization before giving your time or money. In this way, you can be sure all that you give is being used to its fullest potential.
Giving to charities doesn’t allows have to mean giving money. There are dozens of ways that you can give and help, even if you don’t have any extra money to spare. Many organizations are looking for volunteers to come help out a few times a month or so, and donating even just an hour of your time at once can make a big difference. Soup kitchens, women’s shelters, and foster homes are always in need of volunteers, and you usually can donate as little or as much time as you have available. You can even start your own group of volunteers, cleaning up local parks or starting your own urban garden.
If you really want to give and want what you give to make a real difference, do it the Stephen Dent way – be smart, research the organization thoroughly, and make sure all of its goals are in alignment with your personal ethics and beliefs.
